Buildings

The sustainable construction of buildings depends on ensuring the adequacy of all essential characteristics. Load-carrying capacity, stability, and seismic resistance need to be provided by the building’s structure and its foundations. Safety against fire, energy efficiency, and noise protection are strongly affected by the building’s design, particularly its envelope, and by the technological solutions used. All of these factors have an important effect on the protection of human health and the environment, and on safety in use. The use, during the design and construction processes, of suitable materials and products, based on sustainable sources, is also important.

In the case of all of the above-mentioned fields, ZAG can provide investors, designers, contractors, and surveillance bodies with all necessary expert support. In the case of building design, this support can be provided in the form of advice and reviews of design projects, whereas in the case of the performance of construction works ZAG can provide third party surveillance of the quality of construction products and works, and advice in the case of the most demanding solutions.

When planning the renewal and reconstruction of buildings it is important that adequate preliminary investigations are performed. ZAG can provide the following:

  • inspections and testing of all building elements and of the subsoil beneath the foundations,
  • analyses of faults and damage to buildings, and determining the reasons for them (building pathology),
  • measurements and other kinds of technical observations,
  • estimates of erosion threats and possible differential settlement,
  • structural modelling, analyses, and expert assessments for all essential characteristics,
  • guidelines for the design and implementation of necessary measures.
