The Section for Earthquake Engineering
Performs:
- experimental and analytical research into the seismic behaviour of
building and civil engineering structures,
- tests to assess the dynamic properties of building structures,
- model shaking-table tests of building structures.
Other activities include:
- assessment of the seismic resistance of existing building structures,
- seismic vulnerability studies,
- revisions of seismic designs, and the establishing of criteria for
the seismic resistance of new and existing building structures
- research into methods for the seismic strengthening and retrofit
of existing buildings, including experimental verification of their
effectiveness,
- research and experimental verification of methods for the seismic
retrofit and rehabilitation of existing buildings, and particularly
of building-friendly methods to be used in the case of masonry buildings
of historical importance,
- participation in the governmental program for earthquake disaster
management and mitigation.
