The Laboratory for Mineral Binders and
Mortars
Performs tests of the chemical and physical-mechanical properties of:
- mineral binders: Portland and other cements, limes, and plasters,
- mineral additives: natural pozzolanas and other silicates, silica-fume
- fly-ash, blast-furnace slag and other waste materials,
- chemical admixtures for mortars and concretes,
- mortars for repair works,
- mortars with mineral binders for masonry work and plastering,
- cementitious adhesives,
- certain mineral-based building products.
The Laboratory also performs research in the fields of:
- the chemical processes of the hydration of cements,
- the effect of mineral additives and chemical admixtures on the hydration
of cement minerals, cements and mortars,
- the chemical resistance of mineral-based building materials to aggressive
media, as well as developing and introducing new methods of testing.
