Bojan Leben elected as new FEHRL Executive Committee Chairman

Ljubljana, 26 October 20009 - The 21st FEHRL General Assembly, which took place in Budapest, Hungary, on October 8th and 9th 2009, has elected Bojan Leben (ZAG) as the new FEC Chairman.  Mr. Leben will be taking over for Mr. Govert Sweere who served as FEC Chairman since 2006. Martin Pipa (CDV) and Sandra Erkens (DVS) have also be elected to join the Executive Committee. All of the newly elected members will serve on the FEC for a three-year term.
Mr. Leben is an expert in pavement engineering - Pavement and Asset Management Systems with an emphasis in pavement condition monitoring. He previously served as the FEC Supervisor for  Environment, Energy, and Resources and he was also the vice-chairman of the TRA-2008 Organizing committee. He has been involved in a number of EC Framework projects and COST actions, and has been representing The Slovene Roads Directorate in the ERA-NET ROAD project.

At the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, he is Head of the Section for Road Maintenance and Management. The section monitors the condition of road pavements in terms of longitudinal and transverse unevenness, skid resistance, bearing capacity and surface defects. Using sophisticated equipment, the Section's experts determine the initial condition of road pavements, manage road pavement condition data, and prepare monitoring results for the National Road Administration's Road Data Bank. On the basis of the results of field measurements and laboratory tests, expert studies are prepared, as well as recommendations for the rehabilitation of individual road sections, both for individual customers and for courts of justice. Through its activities, which include not only road surfaces, but also airport runways and other areas used by vehicles, the Section contributes towards more efficient road management and better distribution of the funds available for road maintenance. Collaboration within national and international research projects takes place on a regular basis, to which the Section is able to contribute with its knowledge and activities.
