Transport Research Arena 2008 opens today

Ljubljana, 21. 4. 2008 – Transport Research Arena 2008 opens today at noon at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. From April 21-25 Slovenia hosts one of the major venues during the Slovenian presidency in the EU.
The conference aims at joining all the stakeholders in the area of transport research – political bodies, representatives of the industry, experts, and researchers – with the purpose of facing mutual challenges and lead constructive dialogues.
The organizers have expressed their pleasure at the fact that a conspicuous number of participants are coming from the New Member States of the EU, as well as from the Candidate States and neghbouring countries.
The biannual conference will be opened today by the chairman of the TRA Manangement Committee, Vili Žavrlan. His welcome will be followed by five represantatives of the crucial areas addressed by this conference in Ljubljana:
  • Janez Potočnik, Member of European Commission,
  • Radovan Žerjav, Minister of Ministry of Transport Of Republic of Slovenia,
  • Wolfgang Steiger, Chairman of ERTRAC (European Road Transport Research Advisory Council & Group Research, Director Powertrain, Volkswagen AG,
  • Dimitrios Nikolaou, Chairman of CEDR, (Conference of European Directors for Roads),
  • Michel de Virville, General Secretary of Renault Group.
Every day of the event strategic and plenary sessions will be taking place. The organizers have built up a rich social programme accompanying the conference, which includes sightseeing and technical tours for the participants, cultural events and a gala dinner.
TRA is a unique opportunity for EU road transport stakeholders and researchers to discuss new strategies and develop good partnerships.
The program is built around the today's key challenges, summarized in the slogan Greener, Safer and Smarter Road Transport for Europe. The three main topics of the event are Transport and Climate Change, and Traffic Safety .
