29.11.2022

We are glad that among the recipients is also ZAG Ljubljana, which participated in the project “Disposable medical masks represent a new potential burden for the terrestrial environment”. A group from the Laboratory for Polymer Materials/Department for Functional Materials participated in the design of the achievement (professor Dr. Andreja Škapin and Luka Skrlep). You can find more in the siol.net news.

Disposable medical masks represent a new potential burden on the terrestrial environment Researchers from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana, the Institute of Civil Engineering of Slovenia and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam were among the first to study the effects of microplastics from medical masks on terrestrial invertebrates. In addition to a basic understanding of the responses of organisms to exposure to microplastics, the study will help to raise awareness of the importance of proper disposal of waste medical masks.
