In the field of cultural heritage it is used to determine the homogeneity and the degree of decay of materials at different depths and the consolidation effectiveness . It is a micro-destructive method that allows the assessment of the hardness by the depth of the substrate. The method consists of drilling a hole and continuously measuring the penetration force with a load cell, where the rotation speed and the penetration rate were kept constant.
