TITLE:
HeSci - Heritage Science
DESCRIPTION:
LINXS, the Lund Institute for Advanced Neutron and X-ray Sciences (Sweden), for the first time, welcomed Theme proposals from national and international organisations. A LINXS Theme is designed to progress that topic by resourcing interactions between different groups/areas through relevant and strategic activities. In this framework, we proposed a theme named 'Heritage Sciences', focused on a combination of non-destructive techniques using advanced neutron and X-ray imaging and/or spectroscopy to characterize cultural and natural heritage materials. The 2 steps proposal was approved and the Theme started officially on August 1st 2023. The budget will partially fund the organization of workshops and schools at the Core Members institutions. The Theme will bring together an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars to build a new research network for future research with X-rays and neutron applications for heritage studies. Considering the importance of networking, many of the activities will focus on supporting workshops and training for researchers unfamiliar with these new techniques. The planned events will focus on knowledge-sharing, with short presentations by members of the working groups (WGs). Six WGs have been created spanning from Fieldwork and Collections (WG1) to Conservation (WG1), from Advancing analysis (WG1) to Quantitative methods (WG1), from Visualization (WG5) to Communication (WG6). Lucia Mancini (ZAG) will act as Core Member and Leader of the WG5. A 3-days Workshop on the Visualisation topic will be held at ZAG in September 2024. Main aim: discuss application of advanced and user-friendly 3D & 4D visualisation tools. Training sessions will take place on a large variety of case studies in the heritage science field.
