VIRIDI - Stärkung des gemeinsamen Übergangs zu einer kreislauforientierten und ressourceneffizienten Wirtschaft durch integrierte und digitale Unterstützung für KMU in der grenzübergreifenden Region SI-AT

Enhancing joint transition to circular and resource efficient economy through holistic and digital support of SMEs in cross border region SI-AT.
The challenge of the VIRIDI project is the transition to a green, circular economy in the cross-border SI-AT area, which is critical to achieving European goals - to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 through more sustainable product design, waste reduction, and citizen empowerment, with an emphasis on economic sectors, large consumers of raw materials and energy. The project addresses the too-slow transition to a circular economy, especially in the construction industry, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the need for more development of the potential for a more competitive cross-border region. Common gaps: underutilization of the opportunities offered by the green and circular transition in terms of drawing state and EU funds and creating new business opportunities, e.g., in the processing of waste into products, knowledge of environmental, financial, and social savings, new employment, the opening of new markets and market niches; lack of cooperation at the decision-making level, e.g., lack of standard cross-border measures strategies; insufficient introduction of digitization of business processes of companies in the field of circular economy - in the construction industry; presence of excessive dependence on global value chains (raw materials, energy sources, products). The general goal of the project is to encourage and strengthen the potential of cross-border cooperation in the cross-border region for transition to a circular economy, especially of SMEs and others, as well as the efficient use of resources, the use of digitization in business and technological processes of various economic sectors, with an emphasis on the construction industry. 6 partners participate in the project: AT: Carinthian Chamber of Commerce, lead partner, Energy Forum Carinthia and Slovenian Business Association in Carinthia; SI: ZAG, Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia and Scientific research centre Bistra Ptuj. Through project activities, achievements, and results, as well as connecting partners and different target groups, we expect changes that will contribute to the more significant economic development of the cross-border region of SI and AT Carinthia and beyond:

- VIRIDI Academy is a modular education program in circular economy, digitization, and greater use of resources.
- A strategy on a) the sustainable operation of the first cross-border bilingual digital platform VIRIDI, b) the circular economy supporting SMEs and other stakeholders for an easier transition to a circular economy in the cross-border area.
- We developed a cross-border circular business model for circular construction, which can also be capitalized in other economic sectors.
- As an example of cross-border development and technological innovation, we will establish a cross-border value chain for circular economy - circular construction.
- We are establishing a cross-border network of SMEs and other stakeholders operating in the circular economy.
